1. Tell me about yourself?

  • It’s okay to talk about your hobbies and interests but keep it brief. Try and focus on related work experience. Remember having related work experience is important because it will put you ahead of the competition.

2. What can you tell me about GoodLife Fitness?

They ask this question because they want to find someone who wants to work at GoodLife and not someone who is randomly applying for jobs hoping to get an interview.

 

  • Goodlife Fitness is a Canadian Fitness Gym with over 300 Locations across the country.
  • The gym was founded in 1979.
  • Goodlife Fitness’s head office is in London Ontario.
  • Areas served include Newfoundland, PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia.
  • GoodLife Fitness has a partnership with Jillian Michaels BODYSHRED in Canada.
  • Goodlife partnered with 24 Hour Fitness (a US-based Gym) to allow its members to use 24 Hour Fitness when its members are in the US and vice versa.
  • The gym is the largest fitness company in Canada.
  • As of 2023, there are over 1,500,000 million members and over 450 Clubs across Canada.



3. Why do you want to work for Goodlife Fitness?

Possible answers are:

 

  • State you want to work and grow your career in the fitness industry and feel GoodLife fitness is the best place to do it. State you are impressed that GoodLife is the 4th largest fitness club chain in the world and 1 in 25 Canadians are a GoodLife Fitness member.
  • Mention you would be proud to work for a company that runs/sponsors GoodLife Kids Foundation, and GoodLife Marathons.

4. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have which directly correlate with the job you are applying for. Therefore review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

5. What is your greatest weakness?

Don't Say

  • You don’t have a weakness.
  • You can’t think of a weakness.
  • Something unrelated to the job.
  • State a weakness that is critical for the job.

Do Say

  • Something that is related to the job but is not a deal-breaker.
  • Steps you are taking to improve your area of weakness.
Example

My greatest weakness is I don’t take criticism well.  However, I have learned not to overreact and think about what was said.  I have found that I have become a better employee when I learn from feedback.

6. Why should we hire you?

  • Be straightforward and confident about your abilities. 
  • Highlight the reasons why you are the right candidate.
  • Be enthusiastic about why you want this job. 
  • Confirm your ability to work hard.

7. Why is there a gap in your resume?

  • Honesty is the best approach when answering this question.  Being honest about your situation gives the employer a sense of integrity and confidence.

8. What hours can you work? 

  • Try and be flexible when answering this question. The more flexible you are with your hours, the better chance you will have at landing the job.
  • State you understand if you need to work weekends and holidays. 

9. Do you have any questions for us?

Tip! Don’t be afraid to ask questions during the interview. Asking questions is important because it builds rapport between you and the interviewer.

Motivator Interview Questions

Why do you want to be a motivator?

Possible answers are

 

  • Say you are passionate about fitness.
  • State you are a good communicator which will allow you to work well with customers and solve any problems or questions they have.
  • Finally, mention you would prefer to work in a job that keeps you active (job description states they need someone who can work and think on his/her feet for long periods of time)

Why should we hire you as a motivator?

  • Mention you have strong multi-tasking, communication, and problem-solving skills which will allow you to work well with customers.
  • Discuss any related work experience you have, what you have learned from it, and how you can apply it to the motivator role.
  • State you are flexible in regard to the hours you can work.  Next, say you are dependable and you know how important it is to start your shift on time.
  • Also, let the interviewer know if you have your CPR certification as you will be required to get it within the first three months of your employment.

Name a time when you have gone above and beyond for a customer?

  • Customers love when you go above and beyond for them which will, in turn, generate more business. Try and think of a time you went above and beyond for a customer.
Example
  1. When I was a server at a restaurant, we did not have a particular dessert. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it and I was able to get it for them.  
  2. In my last job, I worked at a fast-food chain and there was a senior citizen at the restaurant who had finished his meal.  It started to rain and he was worried as he did not have an umbrella. Luckily, I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car sheltering him from the rain.

How do you deal with an upset customer?

  1. Listen and let the customer vent.
  2. Show the customer you care.
  3. Don't blame the customer or the company.
  4. Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  5. Don't make promises you can't keep.
  6. Finally, it is important not to take it personally.  If you get upset you will take it on future customers.

What motivates you?

Employers ask this question because they want to see your resiliency, determination on how you’ll handle challenges and setbacks.
