1. Tell us about yourself?

  • It’s okay to talk about your hobbies and interests but keep it brief. Try and focus on related work experience. Remember having related work experience will put you ahead of the competition.

2. What can you tell us about Manulife?

  • Manulife is the largest insurance company in Canada.
  • They provide financial advice, insurance, wealth, and asset management solutions for individuals, groups, and institutions.
  • Manulife operates primarily as John Hancock in the United States and Manulife elsewhere.
  • Assets under management and administration over $1.3 trillion (US$1.0 trillion) at the end of 2022.
  • John A. McDonald founded The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company in 1887.

3. Why do you want to work at Manulife?

Possible answers are

  • State you would like to grow your career in the insurance industry and feel that Manulife is a great place to do it since Manulife is Canada’s largest insurance company.
  • Mention you are impressed with the fact that Manulife is one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers, Canada’s Top Employers for Young People (2019), and one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers (2019).

4. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe your skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. Therefore review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

5. What is your greatest weakness?

For example, my greatest weakness is I don’t take criticism well.  However, I have learned not to overreact and think about what was said.  I have found that I have become a better employee when I learn from feedback.

6. What motivates you?

7. What are your salary expectations?

  • This is a stressful question because if you ask for too much you will not get the job, and if you ask for too little they will gladly underpay you.
  • Be sure to research salary expectations for your role before you go into the interview. There are plenty of sites that will discuss salary ranges.
  • If you don’t know what to say then ask what the salary range is?  You can then counter with the high end of the range. 

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • Have a look at careers on Manulife’s website and find a position you can see yourself doing in five years then describe what you are doing to reach that goal
  • For example, suppose you are answering Manulife developer interview questions in IT. Suppose in five years you want to become a project manager. State in five years you want to become a project manager and are currently studying for your project management certification (PMI).

9. Do you have any questions for us?
